Help Northumbria Mammal Group!

Northumbria Mammal Group has embarked on a project to produce a book about the mammals of North East England.
Although it won’t principally be an atlas, each species account will include a distribution map showing current known distribution and, in relevant cases, historical distribution. Inevitably there are significant gaps in our knowledge and preliminary distribution maps based on our current knowledge have lots of blank spaces where a species is likely to be present but has never been formally recorded.
The first task in the process has been to try and populate the distribution maps with as many records of mammals as possible. To help in this process ERIC North East has produced maps to 2km resolution of all the current records for each species. This will enable people to see where the gaps are so that surveys and recording can be targeted to those areas.
The intention is to have the book published in 2012, which gives another season in which to collect more records. Visit their website to find out how you can help.
Don't forget, membership fees are usually £5-£7, however thanks to a grant from OPAL, MEMBERSHIP IS FREE until the end of May 2012 in return for at least one record of a mammal in the North East of England. If you would like to join please visit the website and download a membership form.
